Ear Candling

Ear Candling has its origins in Shamanic Culture, in particular, the Hopi Fire Tribe who lived closely with nature.  The philosophy honours the Ear as an important healing area of the body.  We see many reflex areas and acupressure points mapped out on the ear as well as a belief that stagnant energy can be released through this energetic doorway.

How do Ear Candles work?

The Ear Candles I use are comprised of Organic cotton wrapped in Organic beeswax and contain honey and infused essential oils and herbs.  They are hollowed in the centre.  The candle is gently placed in the ear while the client lies on their side. When lit, the candle begins to slowly burn and the smoke is drawn down the hollow into the Ear Canal. There is a slight suction motion to allow the vapours to be drawn down into the ear.  The Candles DO NOT pull ear wax from the ear.  This is the biggest misconception with this therapy. I have the same conversation over and over again with clients who have been told differently. Here’s how it works. Ear candling can be beneficial for loosening and alleviating the symptoms of compacted ear wax but not by directly drawing it out.  The smoke circulating in the ear canal has a gentle massaging effect on the Ear, normalising and balancing the whole area of the head, especially the Ear, Nose and throat. Compacted ear wax may be softened in the process and can release itself over the next few hours or days.

With that balancing effect in mind, you can maybe start to imagine what else might be treated with ear candling. There are three major elements at play during the treatment : The Heat from the candle which gives the circulation a boost and brings warmth into a hard to reach area, The Fire which has a cleansing effect on the more subtle energies and The Aroma from the candles which target the olfactory system, calming the mind and body.  The therapist touch also plays a big part in facilitating that balance we are all striving for.

Conditions Treated:

  • Headaches / Migraines
  • Cold / Catarrh / Sore throat
  • Sinusitis
  • Compacted Ear Wax
  • Hayfever
  • Pressure Regulation i.e. Flying / Diving
  • Snoring
  • Tinnitus
  • Stress / Busy minds

The treatment is very pleasant and non-invasive. Many clients will completely relax and some even fall asleep.  The revitalizing heat upon the head and ears soothes, relieves and relaxes. The treatment is completed with a lymphatic drainage massage of the face neck and head, helping to target sinus areas and aid drainage.

There are some conditions where caution is needed, so it is advisable to talk to me by phone before booking your appointment.
